flower-envying
the day of the sea
for dance of tragedy in one key
bleeds, the root
and laz crawls like a dandelion.
shame, shame of the garden
born naked; wastrel-limbs
crawl rain,
winter of pearl sinking
feet
poisoning again
a body
breaking their wisps
and bones, come leaf,
god forbid if I meant it,
lies the stone where i look
through dooms of stars
and fragility of love
I give this womb an air
over the grave for you and I
above.

This is vividly chilling Lucy… standing naked in a frosty winter garden…

I think we never really know how close we are to the grave… we might feel it sometimes like the damp breath of dusk, or catch the scent of the grave in passing… but maybe we have to ignore the abyss if want to keep walking,

This passage is so splendid Lucy. Dark piece overall, but fascinating to read, as usual.

The subtle play between birth and death, the womb and the grave, come through very strongly in this piece, which was a fine way to follow the lines from Perez.

I love the way you’ve riffed on the Perez line, Lucy, the ‘dance of tragedy in one key’ and the story of Eve’s shame or curse.
